Chery Australia is considering expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup to include affordable hatchbacks and sedans, according to a recent statement. This move could potentially shift the focus away from the popular SUV market. Chery's Chief Operating Officer, Lucas Harris, revealed that the company is closely monitoring the market trends in its home country, China, for potential new models. He highlighted the success of the Fulwin sedan, a large sedan equipped with Super Hybrid technology, which is priced competitively. Harris expressed interest in introducing this model to the Australian market, as it currently lacks many competitors in that segment. Chery's Fulwin sedan line is part of a broader strategy to diversify its offerings, including the A9 large sedan as a range-extender electric vehicle (EREV) and the A8 mid-size sedan as a plug-in hybrid. Additionally, Chery has the QQ3 hatchback, a small, rear-drive, all-electric vehicle with a lithium-iron phosphate battery, which has been recently unveiled in a new-generation form. Harris also mentioned the QQ hatchback, a small, stylish car with an interesting design, which he believes would be a great addition to Chery's lineup. However, the company's ability to introduce these models to the Australian market remains uncertain, as Harris humorously suggests they will have to 'jump up and down and make lots of noise' to convince Chery to send them the vehicles.
