Hold onto your seats, soap fans, because General Hospital just took a jaw-dropping turn that no one saw coming! Willow, the seemingly devoted wife, has gone from shooting Drew to stabbing him—and actress Katelyn MacMullen is loving every unhinged moment. In an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest, MacMullen dives into the 'exhilarating' twist that has fans buzzing. But here’s where it gets controversial: Is Willow trying to kill Drew, or is she just incapacitating him? And this is the part most people miss—her ability to convincingly play the distraught wife while hiding her dark secrets. MacMullen reveals, 'It’s like she’s putting on a performance, but she has to convince herself too.'
The drama kicked off earlier this month when Willow, played by MacMullen, was revealed as the one who shot Congressman Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). Shockingly, she walked away with a not guilty verdict, only to return home and stab him in the neck with a needle—a scene MacMullen describes as 'so fun' to film. 'Cameron and I were laughing the whole time,' she giggles. 'It’s a stunt, but it’s also so well-coordinated that it feels like you’re really living it.'
MacMullen learned about the stabbing twist around the same time she found out Willow was Drew’s shooter. 'Someone just casually mentioned, ‘She stabs him in two weeks,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, great!’' she recalls. While initially thinking Willow intended to kill Drew, MacMullen now believes her character was more focused on incapacitating him. But why? And how does she plan to keep her mom, Nina (Cynthia Watros), and her friend Liz (Rebecca Herbst) from suspecting a thing? The answer lies in her Oscar-worthy performance as the grieving wife, which she delivered flawlessly in the January 21 episode.
This darker version of Willow has pushed MacMullen out of her comfort zone after seven years in the role. 'It’s exhilarating but also a little daunting,' she admits. 'I’m used to Willow’s psychology working one way, but exploring these new dimensions has made me feel more connected to her.' Fans are eating it up, especially her subtle smirks that have become a hit on social media. MacMullen even finds moments of black comedy in the storyline: 'The situation is so intense that it’s nice to have some humor mixed in with the craziness.'
And the craziness is far from over. MacMullen teases that this week’s stabbing is just one of many twists to come. 'The writers are doing an amazing job,' she praises. 'Even I’m surprised by the scripts—there are so many more surprises in store.'
But here’s the real question: Is Willow a mastermind or a desperate woman in over her head? And what does this mean for Drew’s future? One thing’s for sure—General Hospital is keeping us on the edge of our seats. What do you think? Is Willow’s plan foolproof, or is she about to get caught in her own web of lies?
