Her recent embrace of the Make America Great Again movement has raised eyebrows, especially given her past negative remarks about Trump, alongside a political stance that has often seemed ambiguous. During her speech, Minaj humorously jabbed at California Governor Gavin Newsom, playfully renaming him "New-scum"—a moniker Trump has used. As a Democrat, Newsom is viewed as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race. Minaj expressed her admiration for both Trump and Vance, who, despite not declaring his own presidential aspirations, received an endorsement from Erika Kirk, who has taken over leadership at Turning Point USA.
"This administration consists of individuals who possess both heart and soul, and they instill in me a sense of pride," Minaj remarked. "I genuinely appreciate both of them; they have an extraordinary knack for being relatable."
The artist recently shared a post from Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, regarding actions aimed at sanctioning Nigeria for its government's failure to address the ongoing persecution of Christians. Commentators note that the situation in Nigeria is complex, with deep-rooted issues that contribute to the violence there.
Expressing her gratitude for living in a nation where freedom of worship is valued, Minaj conveyed her thoughts on social media, stating, "Reading this filled me with immense appreciation. We are fortunate to live in a country that allows us to worship God freely." Following this, she was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the U.S. mission to the United Nations alongside Ambassador Mike Waltz and other faith leaders.
Minaj voiced her frustration with feeling "pushed around" and noted that expressing differing opinions can be contentious because "people have stopped using their minds." Erika Kirk commended Minaj for her bravery in facing backlash from the entertainment industry for her pro-Trump sentiments.
