Ocean exploration is getting a massive robotic upgrade! VARD, a Norwegian shipbuilding giant and a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has just inked a deal with Ocean Infinity to build four new Multi-Purpose Robotic Vessels (MPVs). But here's where it gets interesting: the project involves multiple VARD group companies. Vard Electro will equip these vessels with their SeaQ systems, crucial for remote operations. Vard Interiors will focus on interior solutions, blending innovative design with energy-efficient systems to ensure crew comfort and optimal performance. And Seaonics will provide the Launch and Recovery System (LARS), which is essential for handling ROVs and geotechnical equipment.
The construction will be split between VARD's Norwegian shipyards and Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam. Two vessels are slated for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2028, while the other two are expected in the third and fourth quarters of 2028. This global approach highlights the company's robust production network.
